Gaga plays socialite Patrizia Reggiani, Maurizio’s ex-wife who was tried and convicted of orchestrating his murder after he left her for a younger woman. She served 18 years in prison, where she gained the nickname Black Widow, before being released in 2016. The 35-year-old superstar was referring to recent headlines about her acting technique on the set of the Ridley Scott-directed drama, which slinks into theaters just before Thanksgiving. To play Patrizia Reggiani, who plotted the murder of her Gucci-heir husband in 1995, Gaga spoke in a vivid Italian accent for nine months and plunged so deeply into character that she would think and feel as Patrizia even when cameras weren’t rolling.

It can be slow going, but House of Gucci adds up to a fascinating story -- and Lady Gaga's performance is a knockout. You can also find “Just for Variety” at Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts. Those expecting the Mommie Dearest-style camp-fest promised by the trailer will be disappointed; for better or worse, House of Gucci is a little too well behaved to become a cult classic. But Gaga deserves a gong for steering a steely path through the madness – for richer, not poorer; in kitschness and in wealth. Patrizia previously spoke out about Gaga playing her in the Scott-directed film, claiming that Gaga did not reach out to her beforehand. Father, son and house of Gaga: Fans give pop star’s ‘Gucci’ accent the chef’s kiss

Lady Gaga has officially completed filming for the forthcoming House of Gucci movie. The late-night club, which is known for its extremely risque and often scatological stage shows, has been open since 2007 and has hosted stars including Zoe Kravitz, Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus. Well, music fans were left mortified when they clocked onto the fact the singer actually switches to an X-rated alternative during the chorus - that luckily, sounds a lot like 'poker face'. Gaga - real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta - revealed the secret behind the popular song while on stage at the Dolby Live theatre in Las Vegas back in September last year.

Over the past couple of months, the world has been following along with the production of Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, the film that tells the true story of Patrizia Reggiani and how she arranged the murder of her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci. With Lady Gaga and Adam Driver playing those respective roles, the looks we’ve gotten from the film so far have been quite intriguing. But now Gaga herself has shared the first official House of Gucci image, and indeed, a star is born again. The flashy family drama about the scandalous meltdown of its titular fashion empire stars the “Chromatica” artist as Patrizia Reggiani, the real-life Italian socialite who was convicted in 1997 of plotting the murder of her ex-husband. Her former lover, business mogul Maurizio Gucci, is played in the film by Adam Driver. One crucial difference is that while the heroine of “The Last Duel” is sold into a bad marriage, Patrizia wills herself into one.

Variety reported via an anonymous source that despite the severe statement, the Gucci family is not seeking legal action against Scott’s production company or Warner Bros. The world premiere of House of Gucci was held at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on November 9, 2021. The film received mixed reviews from critics who praised the cast's performances but criticized the inconsistent tone and editing.

Whenever that first glimpse of footage is dropped, it may prove to be even more grist for this particular mill, with the whole world watching and waiting. The film was adapted from journalist Sara Gay Forden’s 2001 nonfiction book of the same name, which chronicled the sensational real-life story of the fabulously wealthy Gucci family’s rise and fall as one of fashion’s most prominent dynasties. The tale, which includes Succession-esque rivalries between family members, multiple lawsuits, tax evasion, incarceration and, of course, murder, provided ample creative fodder for Scott and screenwriters Roberto Bentivegna and Becky Johnston. House Of Gucci is inspired by the shocking true story of the family behind the Italian fashion empire. When Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), an outsider from humble beginnings, marries into the Gucci family, her unbridled ambition begins to unravel the family legacy and triggers a reckless spiral of betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately ...

Although it too focuses on an outsider who makes the mistake of fancying themself an insider, “House of Gucci” doesn’t have that earlier movie’s blistering nihilism. It’s a fashion show, figuratively and often literally, and its cutthroat dynamics are lightened with heavy dollops of foam and froth. You may think of Michael Corleone as Maurizio transforms from a quietly principled Gucci agnostic into the fortune-squandering head of the whole empire, his star rising even as his marriage goes spectacularly south. As in any slick bio-fiction, characters have been excised, timelines fudged, perspectives distorted. And yet, even amid the inevitable simplifications and exaggerations, it all coheres, with a kind of implacably grim logic, into an extended cautionary tale about how family and business shouldn’t mix.

To complete the look, Gaga wore thigh-high black fishnet stockings from the collection, which were on display thanks to the daring slit of the dress, and topped off the ensemble with her signature platform Mother Monster heels. Premiere of the movie in London on Tuesday (Nov. 9), and stunned in a billowing purple gown that, unsurprisingly, was plucked straight from Gucci’s spring 2022 Love Parade runway show that took place in Los Angeles last week. “It was a name that sounded so sweet, so seductive, synonymous with worth, style, power, but that name was a curse, too,” Gaga’s Reggiani says in a voiceover opening the trailer that gives a glimpse into the lives of the Italian fashion family. “Confirming that she’s one of the most hypnotically self-possessed actors on the planet, Lady Gaga plays the already ridiculous Patrizia Reggiani as a caricature of a caricature,” writes David Ehrlich.

Lady Gaga Completes Filming on 'House of Gucci' Movie with Director Ridley Scott: 'That's a Wrap'

Born Patrizia Martinelli, the future “Lady Gucci” as she would be dubbed during her heyday, grew up poor and not knowing her biological father. When she was 12, her mother married Ferdinando Reggiani, a wealthy entrepreneur, who adopted Patrizia as his own. When she came of age, Patrizia was a socialite in Milan, but despite her stepfather’s wealth, she was not necessarily part of Milan’s high society.

According to Forden, Patrizia’s mother was hopeful that her daughter could gain the family entry into these social circles. The Gucci fashion house began as a luxury luggage brand founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci. Guccio was inspired to create his business after a stint working as a bellhop at The Savoy Hotel in London and a gig working for an upscale train travel company. Guccio opened his first shop in Florence in 1921, offering fine leather luggage and accessories, as well as leather goods for horsemen. Guccio’s small shop soon blossomed into a booming family business with many shops in different cities and countries, especially after four of his sons (Vasco, Aldo, Rodolfo and Ugo, who was Guccio’s adopted stepson from his wife’s previous relationship) began working with him. Following Guccio’s death in 1953, shares of the business were left to his three biological sons, Vasco, Rodolfo and Aldo.

Behind it all lurks the shadow of The Godfather, providing an archetypal template for everything from a rural outdoor feast over which Pacino presides to the intercutting of dark deeds and baptismal dunkings, albeit in bathwater rather than holy water. There is, for one, no “Godfather” equivalent of Patrizia Reggiani, and no one in “House of Gucci” who can ultimately contend with the force of nature that is Lady Gaga. In a movie that delights in its own counterfeit charms, she is very much the real deal. Directed by Scott, 83, House of Gucci follows the story of Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), the head of the Gucci fashion house, and his ex-wife Patrizia (Gaga) and the aftermath of his death after Patrizia hired a hitman to kill him. On Saturday afternoon, the 35-year-old singer shared a photograph on Instagram of herself pounding fists with Gucci director Ridley Scott.

He’s the company’s entrepreneurial genius, the one who continued his father Guccio’s mission to transform a Florentine family-run business into a global brand. Maurizio and Patrizia soon relocate to New York (and have a young daughter, Alessandra) to work in Gucci’s Manhattan stores. And before long, Rodolfo is dead, leaving his half of the company (in a roundabout fashion) to Maurizio and setting a furious round of power plays in motion. There are stormy confrontations and hostile takeovers, forged signatures and prison sentences, grim financial assessments and odd psychic readings (the last delivered by Patrizia’s friend and future accomplice, Pina Auriemma, played by a very game Salma Hayek). In its unabashed maximalism, House of Gucci is a different sort of movie, as heavily embroidered as an Alessandro Michele bomber jacket.
